Federico Airaudo

Bio

Federico Airaudo is an Ecuadorian artist and newcomer to Calgary. Often described as a Latin American “Where’s Waldo”, his ultra-bright acrylic paintings are brimming with human-animal characters, satirical humour, and winding storylines. Federico’s jam-packed visual scenarios follow a busy constellation of intersecting characters that animate ordinary life and cultural mannerisms of various regions of Ecuador. Federico’s residency at the Werklund Centre researches the layers of animality in Ecuador and Calgary as an active presence rather than a backdrop to human activity. His work playfully leans into the symbolic tensions of human-animal exchanges across distinct  urban scenes—full with ironies and contradictions.
